Foreword 前言
What is the value of life? It is to contribute to society! As an educator, one’s purpose is to cultivate talent for the community and to be a "planter of trees”.
Music education is not merely about developing technical skills; more importantly, through the process of training, it is about instilling the qualities of perseverance and courage in the next generation.
With the encouragement of many friends, I have created this website to record a meaningful chapter of history, in the hope that those who follow will carry this torch forward.
I welcome you all to join me in discussing and exploring the various aspects of piano pedagogy!

Educated at the Shanghai Conservatory with a major in piano, Mdm. Fang has been a renowned concert artist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra since 1973. She appeared frequently on television and radio as both a pianist and accordionist, performing in more than 30 cities across China. Following her immigration to Singapore in 1984, she expanded her career internationally, performing in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. Many of her performances were recorded, and her musical arrangements have been widely published.
In 1991, she founded the Gifted Young Pianists Course at NAFA, and in 1999, she was appointed the Founding Principal of the School of Young Talents and Head of the Junior Music Department. Through Mdm. Fang’s dedicated efforts, the school established a prestigious reputation. Under her diligent leadership, the Junior Music Department has won 730 prizes in international and national competitions. Her students earned 214 of the 384 piano prizes awarded, including 60 awards from the National Piano and Violin Competition. Over the course of 35 years, her students have swept the piano junior category prizes twice and the intermediate category prizes four times.
Her professional teaching methods are highly acclaimed, and her students are sought after by world-renowned institutions such as the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, the Eastman School of Music, the Purcell School for Music, and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. A student concert in 1999 at the Yehudi Menuhin School was noted for having "brought the house down," while a performance for the London music circle received standing ovations. Mdm. Fang was also invited to the 2nd World Piano Conference in Slovenia (2003) and the 27th European Piano Conference in Manchester (2005) to demonstrate her teaching methods; her student concert in Slovenia was recorded on DVD as an exemplary teaching resource.
In 1992, Mdm. Fang’s achievements were honoured by the Cambridge International Biographical Centre, which included her in the International Who’s Who in Music and Musicians, the International Who’s Who of Intellectuals, and the Dictionary of International Biography.
In 2006, she received the COMPASS Meritorious Award for her outstanding contributions to music education in Singapore, followed by the Outstanding New Immigrant Award in 2010. Her significant impact on Singaporean education has been featured extensively in the media and various publications.
